Most people can be trustees and most charities will benefit from including people from a wide range of backgrounds and with a variety of skills and experiences at board level.

When appointing new trustees, the current board should therefore start by thinking strategically about their charity’s needs and consider honestly where there might be gaps in their own range of skills.
