Need an exchange rate?
ICAEW members and students and other authorised users can contact the Library & Information Service for end of month, monthly and annual average exchange rates. If you would like to know more about the information available, please contact us.
Most people expect to find exchange rates on the web, but this is not always as simple as it seems.
Firstly, do you want:
- historical or current rates?
- daily or monthly rates?
- average or end rates?
Secondly, you need to know where your source gets its information.
These questions are important because the answers may affect the source you choose.
When choosing a source of exchange rates you should bear in mind what you want to use the rates for and the type of rate you need. Consider these questions:
- Is it important that the rate is from a particular market, such as London or New York? Most online sources are based on the US dollar and will be quoting data from the US markets.
- Is it important that the rate is a closing rate or an average over a day, week, month etc?
- Is the rate you want an official one? The Library & Information Service maintains a pages on HMRC approved exchange rates and SEC approved US dollar exchange rates.
Where possible we have indicated the source of the information and its type but should always check the source of rates quoted on a site.
