ICAEW University Student Scheme (USS)

ICAEW has designed the University Student Scheme (USS) to complement your degree course and help your students develop the workplace skills that employers want.

Benefits of USS

  • Provides additional value for your students and your degree course
  • Digital skills training with Xero cloud accounting programme and Microsoft Excel
  • Students can gain the job-essential skills that employers look for in recruits
  • Access to interview practice platform
  • Access to ICAEW library – ideal source material for dissertations and assignments
  • Option to study the ICAEW CFAB qualification as a route to chartered accountancy

What is USS?

USS is a toolkit which gives your students access to resources which can help them to stand out in the competitive graduate job market. The resources (webinars, workbooks, videos and articles) are designed to help them understand the skills that employers look for, tools to develop those skills, information on how to evidence these skills in job applications and a chance to practice their interview skills before the big day.

You can offer USS as an additional learning resource for your degree course, and use it to support any professional development modules you provide. You can even choose to register all your students at once and integrate USS into their studies.

Registration costs just £20 per student and lasts for the duration of their studies – meaning they’ll be supported by ICAEW throughout their degree.

USS in more detail

Xero cloud accounting

This six-hour course with its real-life scenarios and practical exercises leads to students becoming Xero-certified.

This certificate is highly valued by employers and many now ask for it as a pre-requisite for jobs.

Microsoft Excel

This online training takes students through video tutorials, progress tests and model spreadsheets.

It’s a great way for students to add new skills to their CV.

Job essential skills  Access to webinars, presentations, videos and help sheets, on topics including:
  • commercial awareness;
  • presentation skills;
  • CV/résumé;
  • interview techniques, and more.
Interview practice Students can access an interview practice platform and practice psychometric tests, assessment day activities and get top tips – all before the big day.
ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB)

Once your students are registered, we’ll also register them for ICAEW CFAB so that they have the option to study it alongside their degree.

ICAEW CFAB is the first six modules of our world-leading chartered accountancy qualification, the ACA, so it’s a great stepping stone towards a career in accounting, finance, and business. If your degree course is accounting, finance or business related, your students could also get credit (CPL) towards the exams.

It usually costs £165 + VAT to register for ICAEW CFAB, but this is included as part of the USS package.

Access to ICAEWs library  USS students have access to ICAEWs world-leading library and can access country reports, industry guides and specialist subject information – great source material for their assignments or dissertation.
Regular USS e-newsletters  They’ll get the latest job vacancies, business news and study advice directly from us.
Exposure to employers  Students who sit four or more ICAEW CFAB exams will be added to our Available Student Register, which goes straight to employers.
Industry expertise  Students can sign-up to receive specialist news from one of our eight faculties, including corporate finance, financial services, IT, and more.
